169 Thrive Deeper: John Chapters 16-21

Chapters 16-21 of the Gospel of John contain some of the most significant events in the life of Jesus Christ. In Chapter 16, Jesus predicts his impending death and the coming of the Holy Spirit to guide his disciples after his departure. In Chapter 17, Jesus prays for his disciples and for all believers, asking for their unity and protection. Chapter 18 describes Jesus' arrest and trial before Pilate, culminating in his crucifixion and death. Chapter 19 provides a detailed account of Jesus' crucifixion and burial, emphasizing the reality of his death and the significance of his sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins. Chapter 20 is focused on the resurrection of Jesus, and the evidence that he has truly risen from the dead, including his appearances to his disciples. Finally, Chapter 21 recounts Jesus' appearance to his disciples after his resurrection, his commissioning of Peter to lead the early Christian church, and his call for all believers to follow him. Overall, these chapters provide a powerful testimony to the truth of the Christian faith, emphasizing the reality of Jesus' death and resurrection, the importance of faith in him as the means of salvation, and the call for believers to follow him and continue his work on earth.

Meet The Presenters

Dr Matt Jacoby

Matt is the teaching pastor at his church in Victoria, Australia, lecturer at the Melbourne School of Theology, an author, a songwriter and, a musician leading the Psalms project band Sons of Korah.

Matt has a doctorate in philosophy and theology from the University of Melbourne, and is the author of the daily Bible reading guide Thrive launched in 2005. Matt's most recent work as an author is his book Deeper Places (Baker Books USA 2013) with an expanded edition released in 2019. In Deeper Places, Matt shares a rich portrait of authentic spirituality. A gifted teacher and Bible scholar, Matthew is invited to speak at conferences and churches where he brings a fresh but foundational perspective to Scripture.

DJ Paine

DJ is a podcaster, photographer and has had a number of years experience as a Christian Radio Breakfast announcer. He would consider himself a professional Christian music geek & amateur Bible nerd. DJ was raised on the Gold Coast and studied at Word Of Life Bible College in Sydney.
