174 Thrive Deeper: Jeremiah Chapters 23-33

Episode Notes

In these chapters, Jeremiah confronts the false prophets who have been deceiving the people with their misleading words. He denounces their lies and condemns their actions, warning of the dire consequences that await them. Amidst this criticism, Jeremiah emphasises the sovereignty of God and the importance of true prophetic messages. He assures the people that God is aware of the deceptive practices and will bring judgment upon the false prophets. Jeremiah contrasts these false shepherds with the true Shepherd, who will come in the form of a righteous leader from David's line – pointing forward to Jesus. Jeremiah also stresses the significance of repentance. He urges the people to turn away from their wickedness and return to the ways of the Lord. He warns that the destruction of Jerusalem is imminent due to the people's disobedience and lack of repentance. Despite the impending judgment, Jeremiah offers hope and reassurance. He prophesies a future restoration, where God will gather His scattered people from exile and bring them back to their land. He speaks of a new covenant that God will establish with His people, one that will surpass the previous covenant and be characterised by a deep personal relationship with God.
